At St Barnabas, we love Christmas and we love celebrating it with our neighbours, friends, families and communities. We’re glad you’re here with us. Christmas is so fantastic not just due to presents, trees and fun but because we celebrate the birth of Jesus. His birth is so special because of what his death means. The cross shows us the greatest act of love, it says to us that we are in the wrong and need a saviour, it is the greatest treasure any of us could ever have, and it is where God chooses to rescue us.
If you want to know more about this Jesus who came for you, we are more than pleased to help you. In fact that’s what we’re here for, so give us a call and come along to one of our services.
May God bless you richly this Christmas.

God rest ye merry gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Saviour
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan's pow'r
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
From God our heavenly Father
A blessed angel came
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings of the same
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by name
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
Fear not then said the angel
Let nothing you affright
This day is born a Saviour
Of a pure virgin bright
To free all those who trust in Him
From Satan's pow'r and might
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
The shepherds at those tidings
Rejoiced much in mind
And left their flocks a-feeding
In tempest storms and wind
And went to Bethlehem straightway
The blessed Babe to find
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
And when they came to Bethlehem
Where our dear Saviour lay
They found Him in a manger
Where oxen feed on hay
His mother Mary kneeling down
Unto the Lord did pray
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
Now to the Lord sing praises
All you within this place
And with true love and brotherhood
Each other now embrace
This holy tide of Christmas
All others doth deface
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o'er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Shepherds why this jubilee
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ whose birth the angels sing
Come adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord the newborn King
Gloria in excelsis
Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo
See him in a manger laid
Whom the choirs of angels praise
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid
While our hearts in love we raise
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Mary and Joseph go to Bethlehem,
Bethlehem,
Bethlehem,
Mary and Joseph go to Bethlehem,
On that very first Christmas.
Baby Jesus born that night,
Born that night
Born that night
Baby Jesus born that night,
On that very first Christmas.
The wise men come to worship him,
Worship him,
Worship him,
The wise men come to worship him,
On that very first Christmas.
The shepherds told that the King is born
The King is born,
The King is born
The shepherds told that the King is born,
On that very first Christmas.
The angels singing ‘glory to God’,
‘Glory to God’,
‘Glory to God’,
The angels singing ‘glory to God’,
On that very first Christmas.
Mary and Joseph go to Bethlehem,
Baby Jesus born that night,
The wise men come to worship him,
The shepherds told that the King is born
The angels singing ‘glory to God’,
On that very first Christmas.
1:26 In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came to her and said, “Greetings, favoured woman! The Lord is with you.” But she was deeply troubled by this statement, wondering what kind of greeting this could be. Then the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.” Mary asked the angel, “How can this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?”
20The angel replied to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. And consider your relative Elizabeth - even she has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called childless. For nothing will be impossible with God.”
22“See, I am the Lord’s servant,” said Mary. “May it happen to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her.
O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.
O come, you Rod of Jesse, free
Your own from Satan's tyranny.
From depths of Hell your people save
And give them victory o'er the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel
O come, you Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel.
Oh, come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Oh, bid our sad divisions cease,
And be yourself our King of Peace.
|| Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel. || REPEAT
Once in royal David's city
Stood a lowly cattle shed
Where a mother laid her baby
In a manger for His bed
Mary was that mother mild
Jesus Christ her little Child
He came down to earth from heaven
Who is God and Lord of all
And His shelter was a stable
And His cradle was a stall
With the poor and meek and lowly
Lived on earth our Saviour holy
And our eyes at last shall see
Him
Through his own redeeming love
For that Child so dear and gentle
Is our Lord in heaven above
And He leads His children on
To the place where He has gone
Not in that poor lowly stable,
With the oxen standing by,
We shall see him; but in Heaven,
Set at God’s right hand on high;
Where like stars His children crowned
All in white shall wait around.
2:1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole empire should be registered. This first registration took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So everyone went to be registered, each to his own town.
3Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family line of David, to be registered along with Mary, who was engaged to him and was pregnant. While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. Then she gave birth to her firstborn son, and she wrapped him tightly in cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
6In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger.”
7Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favours! When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
9They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the manger. After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard, which were just as they had been told.
In a stable down in Bethlehem
Jesus Christ was born x 3
The King and the Saviour and the Lord of Lords
Glory, glory be to Jesus x 3
The King and the Saviour and the Lord of Lords
The First Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds
in fields as they lay;
In fields as they lay keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
Then entered in those wise men three
Full reverently upon their knee,
and offered there in his presence
Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord;
That hath made heaven and earth of naught,
And with his blood mankind hath bought
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
We three kings of Orient are.
Bearing gifts we traverse afar.
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.
Oh
Star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light.
Born a king on Bethlehem's
plain,
Gold I bring to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to reign.
Frankincense to offer have I.
Incense owns a Deity nigh.
Prayer and praising all men raising,
Worship Him, God on high.
Oh
Star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light.
Myrrh is mine: its bitter
perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom.
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding dying,
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
Glorious now behold Him
arise,
King and God and Sacrifice.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Sounds through the earth and skies.
Oh
Star of wonder, …
1:14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John testified concerning him and exclaimed, “This was the one of whom I said, ‘The one coming after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.’”) Indeed, we have all received grace upon grace from his fullness, for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father’s side — he has revealed him.
Away in a manger, no crib for
His bed
The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head
The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay
The cattle are lowing, the
Baby awakes
But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes;
I love Thee, Lord Jesus look down from the sky
And stay by my cradle, 'Til morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask
Thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to heaven to live with Thee there
Hark the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Amazingly Graceful Christmas
Let the
Christmas tree remind you of the one who trusts the Lord
Who walks the path of godliness and loves to hear God's word
Pray that as you grow up, that's just how you will be
Standing tall for Jesus like a Christmas tree
Let your
love show ho ho!
Let your faith grow ho ho!
That everyone will know...
Christ the King of Christmas!
Well, let
the fairy lights remind you of that bright and shining star
Spotted by the wise men who travelled from afar
They gave Jesus all their treasures and they worshipped him that night
Let your worship of King Jesus shine like fairy lights
Let your
love show ho ho!
Let your faith grow ho ho!
That everyone will know...
Christ the King of Christmas!
Well, let
the candy cane remind you of God's amazing grace
Red, the blood of Jesus as he suffered in our place
White, the full forgiveness won as Jesus rose again
You can tell your friends the gospel with a candy cane
Let your
love show ho ho!
Let your faith grow ho ho!
That everyone will know...
Christ the King of Christmas!
Well, let
all the gifts at Christmas time fill your heart with praise (Oooo!)
To God for all his goodness shown in oh so many ways
That every day, in every way, you'll be completely His
Give your life to Jesus as a Christmas gift
Let your
love show ho ho!
Let your faith grow ho ho!
That everyone will know...
Christ the King of Christmas!
What Child is this who, laid to
rest,
On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you;
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
So bring Him incense, gold, and
myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby;
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
Silent night holy night
All is calm all is bright
'Round yon virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heav'nly hosts sing alleluia
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born
Silent night holy night
Son of God love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus Lord at Thy birth
Jesus Lord at Thy birth
Silent night holy night
Wondrous star, lend thy light
With the angels let us sing
Alleluia to our king;
Christ the Saviour is born
Christ the Saviour is born
O Holy Night! The stars are
brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine! O night when Christ was born
O night divine! O night, o night divine!
Led by the light of faith
serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
Over the world a star is sweetly gleaming,
Now come the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friend.
He knows our need, to our weakness he's no stranger,
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Behold your King! Before him lowly bend!
Truly He taught us to love
one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
[ INTERLUDE]
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine! O night when Christ was born
O night divine! O night, o night divine!
O come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant

Born the King of angels
O come let us adore Him

Hosts of heav'n above
Glory to God

Christ the Lord
Yea Lord we greet Thee
Born this happy morning

Word of the Father
Now in flesh appearing
O come let us adore Him

O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord
Joy to the world! The Lord is come
Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing
Joy to the world! the Saviour reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders and wonders of His love
